NURSERY CATALOG HISTORY

First Royal Palm Nurseries Catalog (1885)

Over one hundred twenty years ago Royal Palm Nurseries published a sixteen-page catalog offering a wide variety of tropical and semi-tropical plants and trees. It was the first of over 40 catalogs the Nursery would publish over the next 45 years. Plant enthusiasts from across the nation and around the world would place orders and nursery staff would painstakingly pack and ship the plants to thrive in their new environs. The Nursery would boast Thomas Edison and every major botanical garden worldwide among its repeat customers.

In the fall of 2004, Royal Palm Nurseries published its first on-line catalog. With hundreds of landscape plants and supplies for home gardeners this 21st century catalog has been developed with today’s busy lifestyles in mind. Our extensive database, built from over a century of experience, can help even the novice learn, choose and create a successful Florida landscape. The plants available are the result of partnerships that we have created with many of Florida’s leading wholesale nurseries. As a result, we are able to provide you with the widest selection of plants, grown by specialists, at the lowest possible cost. Orders can be set up for pickup at the Royal Palm Nurseries offices located at the Reasoner family homestead, Beth Salem on SR70, or for delivery in Manatee and Sarasota counties.

Thomas Edison's handwritten order

For those who enjoy a relaxing walk through a nursery, the Royal Palm Nurseries site at 3004 53rd Ave E next to the Sam’s Club on SR 70 is open daily Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm for you to browse. You are welcome to check out the buds on the plants, smell the blooms on the plants and experience the tranquility of our surroundings. While there are no full-time sales people or Landscape Designers on site, plants are identified and labeled with information regarding use and growth information and cash purchases can be made Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-4pm. Additionally, you are encouraged to browse and take note of any plant or tree that interests you so that you can return to our web site to make a purchase. While there are a significant number of plants on display, this does not represent everything available on our eNursery.
